Dulverton/Exmoor - Community Bus

Dulverton/Exmoor Community Bus - New Opportunities

The Community Bus based in Dulverton is provided by Somerset County Council and is driven by suitably qualified volunteers (SCC will provide training for new volunteers). The drivers have for many years been organised by Dave Perry in Dulverton who has put in untold hours supporting the scheme. At present he is also the main volunteer driver. It is important that the pool of drivers should grow and anyone interested should contact Dave, initially via the council email address. - This email address is being protected from spambots. The bus is a 16 seater with a tail lift for wheel chair users. On Thursday mornings it runs the regular 678 service between Dulverton and Minehead with a route through several settlements on the Brendon Hills side of the A396. The timetable & contacts can be found by clicking here.

Until recently during term time the bus was available only for very short hours because it was also used for school transport. The school transport use has now ceased, so apart from Thursday mornings the bus can be booked for community use pretty well all hours all year round - and the rate is extremely reasonable. Some communities have already got going with transport for young people to go to youth clubs, and some have arranged shopping trips for people who would find it difficult to walk to and from the bus stop by picking them up and dropping them and their shopping at their homes.

It is really important that the use of the bus should now be built up - and the opportunity is here to do it. You can book the bus by phoning the National Park office on 01398 323665
